CANCELLATION OF TOWN MEETING SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2017
The Mayor and Councillor Martin Pugmire have taken the decision to cancel the Town meeting which they had called for Monday 18th September 2017.
The purpose of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for residents to express their concerns about issues regarding the Keswick Convention. Keswick Ministries have now offered to provide this opportunity by way of drop in sessions for residents so it was felt that any Town Meeting should be postponed until these have been given a chance.
A Town Meeting does not have to be called by the Town Council. In this case, the decision to call and subsequently to cancel the Town Meeting on 18th September 2017 was taken by the two Councillors who signed the notice of the meeting (Susan Leighton and Martin Pugmire) who were within their rights to do so. Any six electors can ask for a Town Meeting to be called.
The Mayor intends to provide an update on the situation at the next Town Council meeting on 21st September and the Council as a whole can decide a way forward. All Town Council meetings are open to the press and public and there is an opportunity for the public to raise matters at the meetings.
The next scheduled annual Town Meeting will take place on 19th April 2018.
